Risk Of Anaesthetic

  • Needle fracture
  • Bell’s Palsy – a temporary numbness of face muscles including eye area, caused by local anaesthetic.
  • Heart palpations due to adrenaline in LA
  • Pain & discomfort
  • Infection
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Haematoma and Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Tooth or bone fracture – including root tip breaking off
  • Weakness of jaw or jaw displacement/fracture
  • Damage to structures including teeth, tissues close to tooth being extracted.
  • If the upper teeth are close to the sinuses, removal may cause a hole between the mouth and the sinus. This may need further surgery
  • Nerve damage resulting in partial or permanent numbness.
  • Jaw bone infection ONJ causing delayed healing
  • Change of procedure to surgical or need to refer to specialist.
  • Limited jaw opening called Trismus – temporary
